CREATIVE BRIEF
A short (4-5 minute) documentary-style video of Deb Chaney's art installation in ADERA's Crest to promote ADERA's unique identity and their support of local artists like Deb Chaney.
The story is of the collaboration between ADERA and Deb Chaney, as they are both unique voices with much in common:
Progressive, Passionate and Uniquely West Coast.
Deb Chaney, like all artists, is a dreamer. ADERA are artists as well, because they dream of a better future and literally work to build it by utilising cutting-edge technology with sustainability and environmental conscience at the forefront.
It is the story of how art transforms a space and how a space can be art; Crest, with its meld of Classic, Contemporary, and West Coast styles, is an art piece itself.
The documentary would follow two through lines, one explicit and the other implicit:
Firstly, we see the journey of Deb Chaney's art installation from vision and creation to the finished product within Crest, as she speaks to her inspiration for the project, to bring joy, love, passion through her art, and how ADERA brought that to life by supporting a local artist.
This culminates in seeing Deb's reaction to seeing the completed piece and how happy she is that ADERA helped it become a reality.
The second through line is about expressing ADERA's one-of-a-kind style and substance, aesthetic and sustainability. This is done by drawing comparisons with ADERA to Deb Chaney's art, such as showing how the art installation and the construction of the building mirror each other:
It starts with a vision and becomes a painstaking journey to make sure everything is perfect.
The relationship between Deb Chaney and ADERA is important to emphasise as well, as it is so strong because they both understand that a home isn’t just the building, it is the voices that are held inside.
An ADERA representative can speak to the unique nature of Crest and why it is a perfect home for Deb Chaney's art, as well as ADERA's vision for its buildings and collaboration with artists in the future.

This is a sample to give the idea of the aesthetic, being a larger vision beyond the art installation itself. The idea comes across in the first minute of the video: We thought it was interesting how they integrated her art with the space it is in with their shot selection. Rather than focusing on close-ups of the art, we see wider shots that show her art in her home, allowing us to see how her art informs the space and how the space informs and raises up the art.
With this "wider view" we could see the Crest as a character in the video, as well as allowing for more of the West Coast space that inspires both Deb Chaney and ADERA. For example, Deb walking in nature for inspiration and seeing the tranquility of the mountain views and hints of Metropolitan comfort from Crest's apartments and rooftop lanais. |
